Sascha Woolcott – Co-Chair
Sascha (she/her) is a third year PhD student in the Cui and Edgar groups studying Biological Chemistry. Her research focuses on the intersection between RNA chemistry and glycobiology. She is looking forward to working with an amazing WICTO team this year! Outside of the lab, Sascha enjoys reading, baking, and spending time in the sun so that she can photosynthesize!

Sonia Mulgund – Secretary
Sonia (she/her) is a second year PhD student in the Tran group studying polymer and materials chemistry. Her research focuses on the self-assembly of sequence-defined peptoids and their materials applications. She is looking forward to her first year on the WICTO executive team! Outside of chemistry, Sonia enjoys crossword puzzles, knitting, and taking long walks through the city to try new coffee shops.
Solagne Curling – Treasurer
Solagne Curling (she/her) is a first-year PhD student in the Hargrove lab. Her research focuses on small organic molecules that target viral RNA. She looks forward to serving as WICTO treasurer this year. Outside of the lab, Solagne loves dancing, experimenting with makeup, and reading.
Bonnie Li – Events Coordinator
Bonnie (she/her) is a 2nd year PhD student in the Kumacheva Group. Her research focuses on nano-scale therapeutics. She is excited to serve as one of the Events Coordinators on the 2026-2027 WICTO team. Outside of the lab, Bonnie enjoys drawing, intramural sports, and going on long walks.
Cassandra Gu – Events Coordinator
Cassandra (she/her) is a 3rd year PhD student in the Woolley group studying biological chemistry. Her research focuses on the engineering of optogenetic tools to control protein binding interactions with light. As one of WICTO’s events coordinators, she is super excited to plan fun events this year! Outside of lab, Cassandra likes being outdoors and stargazing.
Mikolaj Zabinski – Events Coordinator
Julia Shu – Social Media Coordinator
Julia (she/her) is a first year MSc student in the Voznyy group studying polymer and materials chemistry. Her research focuses on quantum dots. She is looking forward to connecting with everyone online as WICTO's social media coordinator. When Julia isn't in the lab, she is likely to be knitting, crocheting, and painting, while being overly invested in trade drama in the NHL.
Lucia Huang – Outreach Coordinator
Lucia (she/her) is a third year PhD student co-advised by Profs. Caitlin Maikawa and Helen Tran. Her research focuses on developing colour-changing polymer materials for point-of-care diagnostics. As outreach coordinator, Lucia is excited to work with the WICTO team and share our enthusiasm of science with communities around Toronto. Beyond the lab, Lucia enjoys puzzles, crochet, and bubble tea!
Jess Borean – UTM Campus Representative
Jess Borean (she/they) is a 2nd year PhD student in biological chemistry at UTM. Their research in Dr. Andrew Beharry’s group focuses on developing novel light-activated treatments for cancer. Jess is excited to be joining WICTO as the UTM representative, and looks forward to planning events for students on the UTM campus! Outside of the lab, Jess’ hobbies include dance (her favourite style is ballet!), baking and reading.
Jenny Oh – UTSc Campus Representative
Jenny (she/her) is a sixth-year Environmental Chemistry PhD candidate in the Frank Wania group at UTSC. Her research, in collaboration with Environment and Climate Change Canada and several academic institutions, is currently on the non/target analysis of organic contaminants in the Canadian atmosphere, with particular focus on critical beluga whale habitats in the St Lawrence Estuary to investigate their exposure pathways to atmospheric pollutants. She has been on the WICTO executive team since 2023 and is excited to continue promoting EDI in the Chemistry community. Outside of school, you can catch Jenny running on the urban trails of Toronto, sewing plushies (current project: Maritime lobster) while listening to Youtube essays, or playing video games (current obsession: First Light).
