WICTO High School Internship Program

WICTO hosts an annual high school summer research program in the Department of Chemistry at UofT. High school students (grades 11-12) will be partnered with research labs in the department and will conduct a research project over seven weeks. This program will enable participants to engage in opportunities within STEM, learn about the applications of STEM to their communities, and explore the unique and innovative research conducted in the Department of Chemistry at UofT. We have partnered with Visions of Science, a local non-profit committed to advancing STEM equity by engaging Black and other racialized youth from low-income communities across the Greater Toronto Area who experience significant barriers to participation in STEM. At the end of the program, the high school interns will present their research to the UofT community at an end-of-summer poster session. Additionally, we aim to provide “lunch and learn” sessions throughout the seven-week internship to give participants opportunities to learn from invited professionals, graduate students, and members of WICTO; topics will include EDI and careers in STEM.
